Searching for freedom?

Look no further than the untracked powder of the backcountry.

Backcountry skiing and Snowboarding

Roadless backcountry skiing and snowboarding is unparalleled in providing the best, untouched snow, while offering quiet moments where participants can experience some of the most breathtaking alpine views available.

The terrain of the backcountry is far superior to what is found at a resort: clean air, untouched snow, and amazing mountain views – All with no crowds and free to be shared by you, your friends, and your family.  By keeping Montana’s roadless backcountry the way it has always been we are maintaining our backcountry traditions.

Backcountry skiing is a growing activity and many of Montana’s outdoor retailers sell and rent backcountry ski gear.

Snowshoeing

Winter adventure on snowshoes in Montana’s backcountry can be a great family excursion on a sunny winter day or a solid workout that can take you to places where the skiers can’t go.

If you’re interested in a winter activity that is relatively inexpensive to start, requires little experience, and gives you access to some of the finest views around- snowshoeing is hard to beat.  Like backcountry skiing and snowboarding, many places with great snowshoeing opportunity have free parking and plenty of opportunity for the participants to get away from all the crowds.

Montanan’s have been snowshoeing since before our home became a state.  It is easy to find local businesses around western Montana that rent and sell snowshoes and a group or family can try the sport for about $10 a day, per person.
